Hello Readers,

The first month of the year went by in a second or maybe a minute. 31 days seems like a long time but it goes by in the blink of an eye as a speeding train. What do you think is our purpose? Biologically it might be to procreate and leave behind a lineage, emotionally it might be to find the right partner for companionship and politically it might be to become the most powerful human on Earth. As Aristotle has said “man by nature is political”, it is imperative for us to consider the political aspect if not more but as equally as the other aspects. But what do you think is our purpose?

Inferior complexity affects our self esteem negatively as we are constantly comparing ourselves with better experienced, better knowledgeable and better positioned persons than us. There will always be men and women who will be better than us in some aspects of life. It is not unfair, it is an act of balancing the weaknesses we possess with the strengths of another. Is this the purpose of our life- to compare, feel inadequate and believe we are not in control of our own future?

Life seldom goes by the way we want. That is nature or destiny as you may relate to it. There are forces much bigger and stronger than our imagination can behold working its way parallel to ours. The best chance we get is to try and give the best possible response in that particular circumstance. But that response is influenced by many factors under our control. Our daily routine, habits, people we are inspired and influenced by, family, genetics, education, health and so on. The list is endless but the factors are under our control to some extent. This is where growth lies and this is where we define our purpose.

Readers, our purpose is not to be the best. Who is the best according to you? Someone who is best at something also lags terribly at something else. So why should we create a false hope of achieving the best when nothing as such exists? Our purpose is to try and be better than yesterday. The goal is not to be best at anything rather it is to develop the best possible response to a given situation. This happens when we focus on the controllable over getting overwhelmed by conditions under nobody’s control.

Truth lies in good intentions, hard work, sacrifices, prayers and having faith. Because this is where we let go of the uncertainties and embrace reality as it is. This is also where we can feel centered and peaceful without giving unnecessary attention to things beyond our control. In between holding on to hope and letting go of expectations is where we find endless possibilities for growth. The joy is not in being the best, it is in being better than we were the day before.

Until next time, Readers❤
