All teachers are not mentors

Hello Readers,

Whenever I have a major setback, issue, crisis or an experience that makes me wonder, I often resort to writing it down for my own peace of mind. Recently, I came across an educational institution that claims to be a pioneer for “GUIDING” students but my experience with them was the complete opposite of what they blatantly publish about themselves.

Teachers are supposed to be patient and understanding because students are supposed to not know everything and are seeking knowledge from them. What is the purpose of calling oneself a mentor if all they are able to do is discourage, taunt, demoralise and be unashamedly rude towards a student who is there only to “LEARN”.

The whole concept of mushrooming of new institutes who do not have the ability to see if their teachers are actually capable of having empathy and patience to “GUIDE” students is lost on me. As a human being and a student, I am not supposed to know everything. I am not a robot you see, maybe someone mistakenly thought I was CHATGPT!

Readers, in whatever position you are in life right now, be sure to have patience towards people who might not know as much as you. We are all not supposed to be equal, but to be unique in our own ways. How monotonously mind numbing it would be if everyone around us appeared to know exactly the same things as us and not a bit more than us!

Whoever wants to build a career or associate themselves with the teaching profession, my humble advice is learn how to be a good person and have empathy. You are of utter disgrace if you lack these qualities and yet claim yourself to be a mentor. A mentor should be inspiring not demoralising. A mentor should be a ray of hope to a student, to motivate them to better themselves. What is the kind of society and life we are trying to build if educated people lack basic courtesies?

I am proud of the person I am, genuinely. I love myself so much even if I do not know how the world works or how cunning and opportunistic we are supposed to be. I am very glad that I am an emotional person who has the ability to connect with people without making them feel small or unheard. If emotional intelligence means to keep a straight face and not break down when someone deliberately tries to put you down and is impolite, I am better off without that intelligence. I would rather be an emotional fool who believes knowledge is not everything but a good human being can change your life.

Until next time, Readers❤️
